Association Malienne de Lutte contre les Déficiences Mentales chez les Enfants(AMALDEME)
Founded in Bamako in 1984, AMALDEME is Mali's oldest disability organisation dedicated to children and adults with intellectual disabilities, providing rehabilitation, education, vocational training, and social integration for over 4,000 beneficiaries from Mali and neighbouring countries. It operates branches across all eight of Mali's regions.
About
AMALDEME (Association Malienne de Lutte contre les Déficiences Mentales chez les Enfants) was created on 31 July 1984 through the personal initiative of Madame Sanogho, who sought to support mothers of children with intellectual disabilities who were suffering in silence. Since then it has welcomed more than 4,000 children from Mali, Guinea, Côte d'Ivoire, Mauritania, Senegal, and the Republic of Congo.
What They Do
AMALDEME provides therapeutic care, specialised education, vocational training, and social, cultural, artistic, and sports integration for persons with intellectual disabilities. The organisation operates on a strengths-based philosophy — building on what each person can do rather than what they cannot — and maintains regional branches across all eight of Mali's administrative regions.
Who They Serve
AMALDEME serves children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families across Mali, with services also reaching beneficiaries from surrounding West African nations.
