Association for the Physically Disabled of Kenya(APDK)
Kenya's oldest disability service and rehabilitation organisation, established in 1958, providing physiotherapy, assistive devices, orthopaedic technology, and community-based rehabilitation to persons with physical disabilities across 37 counties through four regional hubs.
About
The Association for the Physically Disabled of Kenya (APDK) was established in 1958 as a charitable not-for-profit organisation and is Kenya's oldest disability institution. Over more than six decades, APDK has grown into the country's leading disability inclusion and rehabilitation organisation, directly benefiting over 500,000 children and adults with disabilities across 37 counties through its North Rift, Western, Eastern, Nairobi, and Coastal regional hubs.
What They Do
APDK delivers physiotherapy, occupational therapy, orthopaedic technology, and assistive devices including prosthetics, orthotics, and mobility aids. The organisation runs community-based rehabilitation (CBR) programmes, a Ponseti club foot management programme, and economic empowerment workshops through its Bombolulu Workshops and Likoni craft centres. APDK also advocates for inclusive elections and national disability policy reform.
Who They Serve
APDK primarily serves persons with physical disabilities — including mobility impairments, limb differences, club foot, and musculoskeletal conditions — across Kenya. Programmes reach children from birth through adulthood, with community outreach extending into low-income urban neighbourhoods and rural communities through the CBR network and regional hubs.
