Autism Spectrum Australia (Aspect) is one of Australia's largest autism-specific service providers, founded in 1966 as a parent-led school in Sydney. About

Autism Spectrum Australia, known as Aspect, was founded in 1966 when a small group of parents in Forestville, Sydney, established a school for their autistic children with just 14 students. Over six decades it has grown into one of Australia's largest not-for-profit organisations supporting autistic people. Aspect's national headquarters is located in Frenchs Forest, NSW, and it holds an important place in Australia's autism history as a pioneering provider of specialist education and services.

What They Do

Aspect operates a network of specialist autism-specific schools and classes across New South Wales and into other states. It provides adult support services, therapy, early intervention, and community programmes including NDIS-funded supports. Aspect's research arm contributes to the evidence base on autism, and its Autism Advisor service offers guidance for newly diagnosed individuals and families. The organisation also provides consultancy and training for schools, businesses, and health professionals.

Who They Serve

Aspect supports autistic people across the full lifespan — from early childhood through to adulthood — and their families, carers, and support networks. While originally focused on New South Wales, Aspect's services and school programmes now reach autistic Australians nationally, with specialist schools serving hundreds of students and community supports reaching tens of thousands more.
