Bulgarian Association for Persons with Intellectual Disabilities(BAPID)
BAPID (Бализ) is Bulgaria's national network of parent organisations advocating for the rights and community inclusion of people with intellectual disabilities, established in 1989. It develops Family Counselling Centres, promotes inclusive education, and implements community-based care services as alternatives to institutionalisation.
About
The Bulgarian Association for Persons with Intellectual Disabilities (BAPID / Бализ) was established in 1989 in Sofia by parents of children with intellectual disabilities. It is a self-governing, non-political national network that defends the right to dignified and independent life for people with intellectual disabilities and their families across Bulgaria.
What They Do
BAPID develops a national network of Family Counselling and Consultative Centres as alternatives to institutionalisation, promotes inclusive education in mainstream schools, and implements community-based social care services to address individual needs. It advocates for national and local policy aligned with the rights of people with intellectual disabilities under the UN CRPD, with a focus on deinstitutionalisation and community living.
