Bundesvereinigung Lebenshilfe e.V. was founded in 1958 in Marburg, Germany, initially as a parents' self-help movement for children with intellectual disabilities. Over seven decades it has evolved into a comprehensive organisation combining direct service provision with strong political advocacy, maintaining offices in both Marburg and Berlin.

What They Do

Lebenshilfe operates residential homes, day centres, sheltered workplaces, and early intervention services through its local association network, while simultaneously lobbying federal and state governments for inclusive education, independent living rights, and equal participation. It also develops professional training standards and produces Easy Read materials and resources.

People with intellectual and developmental disabilities in Germany of all ages, from early childhood intervention through to supported living in adulthood, along with their families and professional carers.
