Community Living Ontario
Community Living Ontario is the provincial confederation of over 100 local Community Living associations, founded in 1953 to champion the right of people with intellectual disabilities to live and participate fully in their communities. It advocates for inclusive policy and supports its member network across Ontario.
About
Founded on April 27, 1953, as the Ontario Association for Children with Intellectual Disabilities, Community Living Ontario is headquartered in Toronto. It has undergone several name changes reflecting the shift from institutionalization toward community inclusion, and today coordinates the largest network of intellectual disability support organizations in the province.
What They Do
Community Living Ontario provides policy advocacy at Queen's Park, training and resources for its 110+ local member associations, capacity-building programmes, and public awareness campaigns on the rights and full inclusion of people with intellectual disabilities. It supports local associations in delivering housing, employment, day programs, and family support services.
Who They Serve
Community Living Ontario serves people with intellectual disabilities of all ages and their families throughout Ontario, through its network of local Community Living associations and as a direct voice in provincial disability policy.
