Deafness Forum Australia
Deafness Forum Australia is the national peak body encompassing the entire spectrum of the hearing sector, representing people with hearing loss, deafness, and ear disorders. Based in Braddon, Canberra, it serves as a unifying national voice for individuals, organisations, and professionals working across Deaf and hearing impairment communities.
About
Deafness Forum Australia is the only national peak body in Australia that encompasses the entire spectrum of the hearing sector — from people with mild hearing loss through to those who are profoundly deaf. Headquartered at 218 Northbourne Avenue, Braddon in Canberra, the organisation brings together individuals, consumer groups, service providers, and medical and allied health professionals under one representative body.
What They Do
Deafness Forum advocates to government and the private sector on issues affecting people with hearing loss and ear disorders, including audiological services, hearing device access, cochlear implant funding, NDIS hearing supports, and early childhood hearing screening. The organisation conducts research, publishes information resources, and engages in policy reform processes to improve outcomes across the hearing health sector.
Who They Serve
Deafness Forum's membership and advocacy covers a wide spectrum: people who are hard of hearing, those with acquired or age-related hearing loss, people who are born deaf, tinnitus sufferers, audiologists, hearing device suppliers, cochlear implant manufacturers, and support organisations. Its broad membership model reflects the goal of speaking with one national voice on all matters related to hearing and ear health.
