About
The National Federation of the Blind, founded in 1940, is the oldest and largest organisation of blind people in the United States — governed entirely by blind people at every level. NFB's national headquarters and research campus are located in Baltimore, Maryland, and the organisation operates state affiliates and chapters across all 50 states.
What They Do
NFB advocates for policy change, litigates to advance accessibility, publishes resources in accessible formats, operates the Jernigan Institute for training and research, and runs signature programmes including the Blind Children's Literacy Initiative, the BELL Academy (Braille Enrichment for Literacy and Learning), and the National Scholarship Programme. NFB also monitors technology companies for accessibility compliance.
Who They Serve
Blind and low-vision people nationwide of all ages — from young children learning Braille to adults in the workforce — along with their families, teachers of the visually impaired, and organisations seeking to improve services for blind people.
