Organization
Neil Squire Society
A national Canadian not-for-profit organization empowering people with disabilities through assistive technology, research and development, and employment programs since 1984. Neil Squire delivers the Technology@Work assistive technology initiative and the Working Together employment program across Canada.
About
The Neil Squire Society was founded in 1984 after 21-year-old Neil Squire was left a brain-stem tetraplegic following a car crash. His family and a group of Vancouver professionals created a ground-breaking breath-driven communication device, and from that origin the Society grew into a national leader in assistive technology and disability employment. Offices operate in Burnaby, Fredericton, Ottawa, and Regina.
What They Do
Neil Squire delivers the Technology@Work program — providing people with disabilities the assistive technology they need for employment, often at no cost — along with employment readiness programs, computer tutoring, ergonomic assessments, and AT research and development. The Society also develops original low-cost AT devices and open-source software for people who cannot access mainstream devices.
Who They Serve
The Society serves Canadians with physical disabilities, acquired brain injuries, and other conditions that affect computer access and workplace participation, with a strong focus on adults seeking competitive employment.
