Nigerian National Association of the Deaf(NNAD)
Nigeria's national organisation of and for Deaf people, operating across all 36 states and six geopolitical zones to promote the welfare, inclusion, and rights of Deaf Nigerians through education, employment, sign language advocacy, and national and international representation.
About
The Nigerian National Association of the Deaf (NNAD) is the national body representing Deaf people across Nigeria, with state branches and affiliates in all 36 states across Nigeria's six geopolitical zones. Headquartered at the Abuja School for the Deaf in Kuje, NNAD is Nigeria's member of the World Federation of the Deaf and advocates for Deaf citizens at the highest levels of government.
What They Do
NNAD advocates for legislative representation of Deaf people, recognition and standardisation of Nigerian Sign Language (NSL), and accessible education for Deaf children and youth. The organisation runs an annual General Meeting, Nigeria Deaf Women Conference, and Youth Conference, and trains volunteer sign language instructors for community-level peer support. Its Deaf-E3 programme focuses on strengthening Deaf education, empowerment, and employment.
Who They Serve
NNAD serves Nigeria's Deaf community including Deaf adults, Deaf women and girls, Deaf youth, and hard-of-hearing individuals nationwide. Programming addresses the full continuum of needs — from accessible education in childhood, to employment and economic empowerment in adulthood, to cultural affirmation of Deaf identity and Deaf-led leadership development.
