Northern Nevada Center for Independent Living(NNCIL)
Founded in 1982 by a small group of people with disabilities, the Northern Nevada Center for Independent Living delivers peer support, advocacy, housing referrals, home modifications, and a dedicated Deaf Resource Center to people with disabilities across Northern Nevada. Consumer-controlled and cost-free for most services, NNCIL empowers individuals to achieve greater independence in their communities.
About
The Northern Nevada Center for Independent Living (NNCIL) was established in 1982 by people with disabilities in the Reno–Sparks area who recognized the need for a consumer-controlled center to help peers navigate life with a disability. Headquartered at 999 Pyramid Way in Sparks, NNCIL also operates an office in Elko, extending its reach across the northern half of Nevada.
What They Do
NNCIL offers the five core IL services — information and referral, peer support, independent living skills training, individual advocacy, and transition support — alongside a Deaf Resource Center, minor home modifications (ramps, grab bars), benefits application assistance, and housing and employment referrals. Most services are provided at little or no cost to consumers.
Who They Serve
People with physical, sensory (including Deaf and hard-of-hearing), cognitive, and psychiatric disabilities in Washoe, Elko, and surrounding Northern Nevada counties, including seniors aged 60 and over, who seek to live more independently in the community.
