About
Orthopaedic Rehabilitation and Medical Services Sierra Leone (ORMS-SL) is a community-based charity registered with the Government of Sierra Leone through the Ministry of Social Welfare, the Freetown City Council, and the National Commission for Persons with Disability (NCPD). It was founded by an orthopaedic technician with firsthand experience of disability, and operates as a disabled persons' organisation committed to removing barriers to care.
What They Do
ORMS-SL provides mobility aids, orthopaedic devices, and free medical services—ranging from simple dental extractions to complex spinal surgeries—to Sierra Leoneans who cannot afford private healthcare. The organisation directs 95% of its funds to direct patient care, co-implements activities with the NCPD, and supports children's education in areas underserved by the Free Education Programme.
Who They Serve
ORMS-SL serves Sierra Leoneans of all ages living with orthopaedic conditions, spinal cord injuries, limb loss, and other physical impairments, with priority given to low-income individuals and communities with limited access to formal healthcare.
