Sense International Kenya
A Kenyan non-governmental organisation supporting children, young people, and adults with deafblindness and complex disabilities since 2005, providing direct support, training for caregivers and educators, and operating East Africa's leading deafblindness resource hub.
About
Sense International Kenya is a non-profit NGO that began supporting persons with deafblindness and complex disabilities in Kenya in 2005, operating as part of the global Sense International network. Based in Nairobi's Woodley Green neighbourhood, it is the only organisation in East Africa dedicated exclusively to deafblindness, and operates a regional Resource Hub providing information, training, and materials for professionals and families across the region.
What They Do
Sense International Kenya identifies children and young adults with deafblindness and ensures they receive quality education and vocational skills. The organisation trains educators, rehabilitation workers, and caregivers to use specialist communication and intervention approaches. Through its deafblindness Resource Hub, it disseminates tools, research, and best practices across Kenya and neighbouring East African countries. It also works with persons who have hearing loss and other complex multi-sensory disabilities.
Who They Serve
Sense International Kenya serves children, young people, and adults who are deafblind — meaning they have a combination of visual and hearing impairments — as well as those with complex disabilities involving sensory and communication challenges. Programmes reach families in Nairobi and through outreach across Kenya, with training services extending to educators and health workers in Uganda and Tanzania through the regional hub function.
