Sierra Leone Association of the Blind(SLAB)
Founded in 1976 by blind graduates of the Milton Margai School for the Blind, SLAB is the national DPO for blind and partially sighted persons in Sierra Leone with branches in eight of the country's fourteen districts. SLAB is a registered World Blind Union member and one of the longest-established and most capable disability organisations in the country.
About
Founded in 1976 and headquartered at 5 Wallpole Street, Freetown, SLAB emerged from the organising efforts of Sierra Leone's first generation of blind graduates. It is registered with the World Blind Union and maintains district branches across the country, reaching the rural majority of blind Sierra Leoneans.
What They Do
SLAB advocates for equal rights and opportunities for blind and partially sighted persons, supports access to education and rehabilitation services, and participates in national disability-policy processes. It has been a partner in programmes funded by the Global Disability Fund focused on disability inclusion in Sierra Leone.
