Quebec Intellectual Disability Society(SQDI)
The Quebec Intellectual Disability Society (SQDI — Société québécoise de la déficience intellectuelle) has been promoting and defending the rights of people with intellectual disabilities and their families since 1951. Based in Montreal, it is one of Canada's oldest disability advocacy organizations and operates in both French and English.
About
Founded in 1951 and formerly known as the Association du Québec pour l'intégration sociale, SQDI is headquartered in Montreal, Quebec. It brings together over 100 member organizations throughout Quebec to form a provincial voice for the rights and inclusion of people with intellectual disabilities.
What They Do
SQDI conducts advocacy on provincial and federal disability policy, publishes bilingual resources and awareness campaigns on intellectual disability, intervenes in cases of discrimination or exploitation, and administers the MAIH programme supporting inclusive leisure and recreation activities. It hosts annual conferences and works with media to shift public perception of intellectual disability.

SQDI serves people with intellectual disabilities, their families, and supporting organizations throughout Quebec, with services primarily in French and bilingual access for English-speaking communities in the province.
