About
Union Nationale des Associations Burkinabé pour la Promotion des Aveugles et Malvoyants (UN-ABPAM) was established in October 1979 in Ouagadougou. The national umbrella organisation unites approximately 60 member associations active in 30 of Burkina Faso's 45 provinces and is recognised internationally as a member of the World Blind Union.
What They Do
UN-ABPAM promotes inclusive education for blind and partially sighted students by working directly with school administrations to enable co-educational access. The union advocates for accessibility in public institutions and employment, coordinates literacy and vocational training programmes for its member associations, and engages in international advocacy through the World Blind Union. Cultural, sports, and artistic development programmes complement its rights-based work.
Who They Serve
UN-ABPAM serves blind and visually impaired Burkinabè of all ages—from primary-school children in inclusive classrooms to working-age adults seeking employment and older adults requiring rehabilitation and daily-living support.
