Unapei(UNAPEI)
Unapei is France's main federation defending the rights of people with intellectual disabilities and their families, uniting approximately 550 local and regional member associations. Founded in 1960, it supports around 180,000 people with intellectual or cognitive disabilities through advocacy, direct services, and policy engagement.
About
Unapei (Union Nationale des associations de Parents, de personnes handicapées mentales et de leurs amis) was established in 1960 and has grown into one of France's leading disability federations, with over 550 affiliated associations and offices in the 18th arrondissement of Paris.
What They Do
Unapei advocates for legislative reform at national and European levels, coordinates member services ranging from residential support to employment inclusion, and produces Easy-to-Read communication resources for people with intellectual disabilities. It also engages directly with EU disability policy through its membership in Inclusion Europe.
