Vision Australia
Vision Australia is Australia's leading national provider of services and support for people who are blind or have low vision, established in 2004 through the merger of major blindness organisations with roots back to 1866. It delivers rehabilitation, assistive technology, education, employment support, and accessible media through Vision Australia Radio nationally.
About
Vision Australia was formed in 2004 through the merger of the Royal Blind Society (NSW), the Royal Victorian Institute for the Blind (RVIB, founded 1866), the Vision Australia Foundation, and the National Information Library Services. With institutional roots stretching back more than 150 years, it is one of Australia's oldest and largest disability service organisations. Its national headquarters is located at 454 Glenferrie Road, Kooyong, Melbourne.
What They Do
Vision Australia provides a comprehensive range of services including orientation and mobility training, assistive technology assessment and training, employment services, early childhood support, deafblind services, and library and accessible media production. Its Kooyong Low Vision Clinic, established in 1972, remains a landmark specialist service. Vision Australia Radio delivers audio content to blind and low-vision communities across Australia, and the organisation produces materials in Braille, audio, and large print.
Who They Serve
Vision Australia serves Australians of all ages who are blind, have low vision, or are deafblind, as well as their families, carers, and educators. Services are accessible nationally through offices, visiting practitioners, and digital platforms. The organisation also works with businesses and government on accessibility consulting and inclusive design.
