About this resource

About

AbleVoices began as a programme of The Arc Williamson County and became an independent 501(c)(3) in 2019. Based in Middle Tennessee, it is built on the belief that photography communicates strengths, interests, and experiences in ways that transcend verbal and written language — making it especially powerful for people with communication and cognitive differences.

What It Does

AbleVoices runs year-round Photography Club programmes — in-person across scenic Middle Tennessee locations and virtually for remote participants — for ages 14 and older. The Photo Academy provides in-studio and community work-based learning for photographers developing advanced skills and job readiness. A Photography for Self-Expression course is delivered in schools and organisations. A Reflection and Connection programme uses photography to foster meaningful conversation with older adults experiencing dementia.

Who It Helps

Teens and adults (age 14+) living with physical, intellectual, developmental, or learning disabilities, chronic illness, or mental health conditions, as well as older adults with dementia through a dedicated programme strand.
