About this resource

About

Accessercise was co-founded by British world champion para-powerlifter Ali Jawad alongside sailor Sam Brearey and lawyer Yulia Kyrpa. Built out of frustration with mainstream fitness apps that excluded disabled people, the platform was developed with and for the disabled community and has been featured in TechCrunch and evaluated in a peer-reviewed PLOS One usability study.

What It Does

The app provides an impairment-specific exercise library where demonstrations are performed by people with the same disability as the user, a social feed for sharing fitness journeys and motivating others, and an Explore section for rating the accessibility of nearby gyms. Users answer onboarding questions about their disability and fitness level so the app can personalise recommendations. A freemium model provides a free tier with an optional subscription for full access.

Who It Helps

People with physical disabilities, chronic conditions, and mobility impairments who want structured workout guidance demonstrated by people with shared lived experience. Currently supports seven disability categories with plans to expand to nearly 200 conditions.
