About this resource

About

Founded in 1983 at the foot of Colorado's San Juan Mountains, the Adaptive Sports Association (ASA) in Durango is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and a chapter of Move United dedicated to providing outdoor, sport, and recreational experiences to people with disabilities. Over four decades, ASA has built adaptive snow sports in south-west Colorado and expanded into year-round programming.

What It Does

ASA's winter programme delivers private adaptive ski, snowboard, and ski-bike instruction at Durango Mountain Resort (Purgatory), taught by more than 50 nationally certified PSIA and AASI instructors trained in adaptive techniques. Beyond the slopes, ASA runs adapted white-water rafting, cycling, canoeing, kayaking, and rock climbing in warmer months.

Who It Helps

ASA serves children and adults with physical and cognitive disabilities, including spinal cord injuries, limb differences, cerebral palsy, intellectual disabilities, and traumatic brain injuries. Financial aid is structured on a sliding scale to ensure participation is accessible regardless of income.
