About
The Adaptive Sports Association (ASA) was founded in 1983 and is based at the Dave Spencer Centre at Purgatory Resort in Durango, Colorado. More than 50 ski and snowboard instructors hold national certification through PSIA and AASI, backed by approximately 280 active volunteers, making it one of the most volunteer-driven adaptive programmes in the country.
What It Does
ASA's winter programme delivers adaptive downhill skiing, snowboarding, and sit-ski instruction using a fleet of mono-skis, bi-skis, and adaptive snowboards fitted with support bars and outriggers. Summer programming adds river rafting on the Animas, group cycling, canoe and kayak day trips, camping, and an adaptive rental-equipment hire programme.
Who It Helps
Children and adults with a broad range of physical and cognitive disabilities. ASA serves more than 450 individuals per year and maintains scholarship funding so that cost is never a reason for exclusion.
