About this resource

About

Aira was founded in 2016 and is headquartered in San Diego, California. Unlike volunteer-based services, Aira employs trained professional agents who are skilled visual interpreters available around the clock with no advance booking required. Hundreds of partner organisations pay for Aira access on behalf of their customers, students, and employees at designated Access locations.

What It Does

Users open the Aira app on iOS or Android and connect in seconds to a live professional agent who can see through the phone camera or paired smart glasses. Agents describe surroundings, read documents, navigate environments, assist with web browsing, complete forms, and provide any other visual interpretation needed in real time. Free access is available at all Aira Access partner locations; personal subscription plans start at approximately $65 per month for paid minutes.

Who It Helps

Aira is designed for individuals who are blind or have low vision and need expert, real-time visual assistance for tasks that automated AI cannot reliably handle. It is especially valued for complex or high-stakes situations such as completing official documents, exploring unfamiliar buildings, or receiving guidance during medical appointments.
