About
Founded in Breckenridge, Colorado, the Breckenridge Outdoor Education Center (BOEC) is a nationally recognized leader in adaptive outdoor recreation with over 50 years of inclusion. BOEC operates on the principle that outdoor experiences are transformative for people of all abilities, working to remove every barrier to participation.
What It Does
BOEC provides personalized adaptive ski and snowboard lessons at four Colorado mountain resorts: Breckenridge, Keystone, Copper Mountain, and Arapahoe Basin. Lessons are entirely free for students with disabilities and include one-on-one instruction from certified adaptive instructors, all specialized adaptive equipment (mono-skis, bi-skis, outriggers, tethers), and a daily lift ticket. Disciplines taught include three-track, four-track, visually impaired skiing, mono-skiing, and bi-skiing.
Who It Helps
BOEC serves children and adults with physical disabilities including spinal cord injury, cerebral palsy, and amputation; sensory impairments such as blindness and deafness; cognitive and developmental disabilities; autism spectrum disorder; ADHD; traumatic brain injury; PTSD; and chronic illness. Veterans and active-duty military are welcomed, and caretakers may attend at a separate cost.
