About this resource

About

BORP — Bay Area Outreach and Recreation Program — was founded in 1976 by and for people with disabilities in Berkeley, California. One of the longest-standing disability-led adaptive sports organizations in the United States, BORP aims to improve the health, independence, and social integration of children, youth, and adults with physical disabilities and visual impairments through sports, fitness, and recreation.

What It Does

BORP launched its virtual fitness program in 2020 and now hosts nine weekly live online classes open to participants across the United States and beyond — all free of charge. Classes include yoga, cardio dance, strength training, and seated tai chi, many designed to be inclusive of both physical disabilities and visual impairments. In-person programs at the Berkeley hub include wheelchair basketball, rugby, goalball, power soccer, sled hockey, and adaptive rock climbing.

Who It Helps

People with physical disabilities, visual impairments, and wheelchair users of all ages. Virtual classes are free and accessible to anyone with an internet connection, not only those in the San Francisco Bay Area.
