About this resource

About

BORP was founded in 1976 by people with disabilities to create access to sports, fitness, and recreation for a historically excluded population. Based in Berkeley, California, BORP is the leading provider of accessible sports and recreation opportunities for people with physical disabilities in the greater San Francisco Bay Area. Its adaptive fitness programme has expanded through virtual classes to serve participants across the United States.

What It Does

BORP runs nine weekly adaptive fitness sessions — a mix of in-person and virtual Zoom classes — led by certified adaptive coaches. Classes are inclusive and full-body, designed for wheelchair users and individuals with varying levels of mobility, using resistance bands, dumbbells, and bodyweight movements. The virtual programme makes sessions accessible to participants well beyond the Bay Area.

Who It Helps

Children and adults with physical disabilities — including wheelchair users, individuals with cerebral palsy, spinal cord injuries, and other mobility impairments — who want structured, community-based fitness classes taught by coaches experienced in adaptive movement.
