About
BORP (Bay Area Organization of Persons with Disabilities) was founded in Berkeley, California in 1976 by individuals with disabilities and is the only organisation in the Bay Area offering a comprehensive menu of adaptive sports, fitness, and recreation programmes. Since 2020, BORP has expanded its reach through virtual programming that serves participants nationwide.
What It Does
Virtual fitness offerings include seated strength and mobility classes for wheelchair users, 30-minute chair cardio and stretch sessions, seated Pilates and breathwork workshops, and Rumba dance adapted for all abilities. In-person programmes in Berkeley include wheelchair basketball, cycling, and an accessible fitness centre.
Who It Helps
BORP serves people with physical disabilities and vision impairments of any age—wheelchair users, people with spinal cord injuries, amputees, and others with mobility limitations—whether they participate locally in the Bay Area or virtually from anywhere in the country.
