About
Challenge Aspen was established in December 1995 and has grown into a year-round programme headquartered in Snowmass Village, Colorado. Operating at one of the world's premier mountain destinations, the organisation provides access to skiing, snowboarding, cultural arts, and outdoor adventures for people with a broad range of disabilities. Challenge Aspen has hosted the National Disabled Veterans Winter Sports Clinic at Snowmass every April since 1999.
What It Does
Winter programming delivers private adaptive ski and snowboard lessons from PSIA-certified instructors for participants aged 4 and up, with adaptive equipment provided to meet each athlete's needs. Challenge Aspen operates Colorado's first TetraSki — a next-generation sit-ski controllable by joystick or breath (sip-and-puff) input, enabling people with the most complex physical disabilities to ski independently. Summer offerings include therapeutic art and drama camps for children and outdoor adventure programmes for newly injured veterans.
Who It Helps
Children and adults (ages 4+) with physical disabilities, cognitive disabilities, and traumatic injuries — including veterans. The TetraSki programme specifically serves individuals with tetraplegia, ALS, or other complex physical conditions who cannot use conventional sit-ski equipment.
