About this resource

About

The Challenged Athletes Foundation (CAF) was founded in 1994 and has since provided more than $130 million in grants to over 45,000 people with physical challenges in all 50 US states and 70+ countries. The organisation believes that participating in sport builds confidence, promotes health, and changes lives.

What It Does

CAF's primary programme is the Access for Athletes grant, which funds prosthetics, racing wheelchairs, handcycles, adaptive ski equipment, and other sports equipment as well as competition entry fees and training costs. A dedicated operational grant serves US military veterans. CAF also organises the San Diego Triathlon Challenge, one of the world's premiere para-athletic events.

Who It Helps

Children and adults with physical disabilities who want to participate in sport or adaptive athletics but cannot afford the specialised equipment or training costs. Applications are accepted year-round and awarded based on need and athletic goals.
