About
Cogmed was created in 2001 by neuroscientist Torkel Klingberg based on research into neuroplasticity and adaptive training. The programme is distributed through trained practitioners including psychologists, occupational therapists, and special education specialists globally, and is available for schools, private practices, and individual clients.
What It Does
Participants complete 25 adaptive training sessions — five per week for five weeks — through a web-based platform, each lasting 30–45 minutes. The software adjusts difficulty in real time based on performance. A qualified Cogmed coach provides weekly feedback calls and monitors progress dashboards throughout the programme. Programme costs typically range from $1,500 to $2,000, reflecting the included coaching and supervision.
Who It Helps
Cogmed is used for children and adults with ADHD, learning disabilities, and conditions that impair working memory including traumatic brain injury, stroke, and cancer-treatment-related cognitive changes. It is available through private neuropsychology practices, specialist clinics, and some school systems.
