About
CoughDrop was created by software developer Brian Whitmer after his daughter was diagnosed with Rett syndrome, built in close collaboration with over 30 speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, and AT specialists. It is open-source and cloud-based, with a freemium model that includes a two-month free trial and affordable monthly or lifetime pricing.
What It Does
All vocabulary board changes are automatically backed up and synced in real time across every device a communicator uses, so home and school boards are always identical. Built-in data reporting gives caregivers and therapists detailed insights into communication patterns over time. The platform supports symbol-based and text-based boards, custom page creation, modelling tools, and team management features for SLPs, teachers, and families.
Who It Helps
CoughDrop serves people of all ages with autism, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, Rett syndrome, ALS, and other complex communication needs. Its multi-device sync and team-centric collaboration model make it especially practical for school and clinical settings where multiple people support the same communicator.
