About this resource

About

Developed by Ekso Bionics, the Ekso Indego Personal received FDA clearance for home and community use for people with spinal cord injuries at levels T3 to L5. Its modular five-component design and one-handed adjustment strapping system make it the most portable commercial personal exoskeleton available.

What It Does

Users initiate walking through weight-shift or button control, with the exoskeleton powering hip and knee motion for upright gait. A companion iOS/Android app allows therapists and users to track sessions and adjust walking speed. Clinical evidence links regular exoskeleton-assisted walking to reduced pain and spasticity and improved bowel function and mood. Ekso Bionics provides in-clinic therapist training before home use begins.

Who It Helps

Adults with spinal cord injury at thoracic or lumbar levels (T3–L5), including veterans covered through the VA, Medicare beneficiaries (covered as of April 2024), and individuals pursuing workers' compensation or auto no-fault insurance.
