About this resource

About

Envision was founded in 2017 by Karthik Mahadevan and Karthik Kannan with the goal of making AI-powered visual assistance available as a wearable device. Built on Google Glass Enterprise Edition 2 hardware running Envision's proprietary software, Envision Glasses are designed to be worn throughout the day for continuous, independent access to visual information without holding a phone.

What It Does

Envision Glasses respond to voice commands and a small physical button, and offer a comprehensive feature set: Instant Text reads text from any surface in real time; Scan Text reads full documents; Describe Scene generates an AI description of the environment; Find Objects locates specific items; Recognise Cash identifies currency; Teach a Face learns to recognise familiar people by name; and Call a Companion or Call Aira connects to remote sighted assistance. Ask Envision, powered by GPT-4, allows conversational follow-up questions about scanned content. Three editions — Read, Home, and Professional — cater to different use intensities and budgets.

Who It Helps

Designed for blind and low vision users who want a hands-free, wearable visual AI assistant for continuous daily use, covering reading, navigation, object identification, and face recognition without needing to hold or look at a phone.
