About this resource

About

Focusmate was built on the body-doubling strategy long used in the ADHD community: working alongside another person dramatically improves task initiation and sustained attention for people whose dopamine systems benefit from external stimulation. The platform has grown to hundreds of thousands of members across more than 190 countries.

What It Does

Users book a session in advance, join a video call, greet their partner, and state their goal for the session. Both people then work silently on their own tasks for the allotted time before checking in to celebrate progress at the end. Pairings are always with strangers to maintain a professional, low-distraction dynamic. The free plan provides three sessions per week at no cost; Focusmate Plus (from $8/month) unlocks unlimited sessions.

Who It Helps

Primarily used by adults with ADHD, autism, executive dysfunction, anxiety, and depression. Effective for anyone who struggles with task initiation, chronic procrastination, or sustaining attention without external accountability.
