About this resource

About

Hamilton CapTel has delivered more than 400 million captioned calls over two decades as a trusted provider of communication solutions for people with hearing loss. The service is certified by the FCC as an IP CTS provider and funded through the TRS program, making it free for qualified users in the United States.

What It Does

Captions are generated using automated speech recognition software, with a live communications assistant available when greater accuracy is needed. The CapTel home phone features a large on-screen display alongside a traditional handset with volume amplification up to 40 dB. The free Hamilton Mobile CapTel app delivers the same captioned call experience on iOS or Android smartphones.

Who It Helps

Hamilton CapTel serves individuals who are hard of hearing, late-deafened, or have difficulty following phone conversations. The large-button handsets and amplified volume make the service especially well suited to seniors and those with combined hearing and vision challenges.
