About this resource

About

Founded in 1979 and headquartered in Bethesda, Maryland, HLAA is a nonprofit with 14 state organizations and more than 200 local chapters across the United States. Its annual convention is the largest gathering of people with hearing loss in North America, bringing together consumers, audiologists, technology companies, and advocates.

What It Does

HLAA publishes a bi-monthly magazine, maintains an extensive online resource library covering hearing technology, legal rights, and hearing health, and operates major advocacy programs including the Get in the Hearing Loop campaign for wider telecoil/hearing-loop access. Local chapters provide in-person peer support groups where members share lived experience and practical advice about living with hearing loss.

Who It Helps

People of all ages who are deaf or hard of hearing, their families and caregivers, and hearing healthcare professionals seeking consumer-centred perspectives on hearing loss resources and accommodation.
