About this resource

About

Get in the Hearing Loop (GITHL) is an advocacy programme run by the Hearing Loss Association of America (HLAA) — the largest US consumer organisation for people with hearing loss. The programme promotes adoption of hearing loop (telecoil / T-coil induction loop) technology in public venues so that audio is delivered clearly and directly into hearing aids and cochlear implants that have a T-coil receiver.

What It Does

The resource provides educational materials explaining what hearing loops are, how they work with T-coil-enabled hearing aids and cochlear implants, and the legal requirements for assistive listening systems under the Americans with Disabilities Act. A downloadable advocacy toolkit gives individuals everything they need to approach businesses, houses of worship, theatres, and government buildings about installing a loop. The programme also maintains information on where looped venues can be found and how to test a venue's loop system.

Who It Helps

People with hearing loss who use T-coil-enabled hearing aids or cochlear implants and want clearer audio in public venues without extra equipment. Also valuable for venue owners, loop installers, and audiologists seeking technical and legal guidance on hearing loop implementation.
