About this resource

About

The International Braille Chess Association (IBCA) traces its roots to a 1951 international correspondence tournament for blind players organised by Reginald Walter Bonham. Today it is both a FIDE-affiliated chess organisation and a member of the International Blind Sports Federation, representing more than 75 nations. Its website carries current competition schedules, news, member federation listings, and governance information.

What It Does

The IBCA organises two flagship team and individual events — the Blind Chess Olympiad and the Blind World Chess Championship — along with an annual correspondence tournament that allows blind and visually impaired players to compete internationally from home using their own adaptive equipment. The site provides event calendars, results archives, and organisational resources for national member federations.

Who It Helps

The IBCA serves blind and visually impaired chess players at all competitive levels worldwide, from players entering their first correspondence tournament to elite competitors representing national federations at the Blind Chess Olympiad.
