About
The Job Accommodation Network has operated since 1983 as the leading US resource for workplace accommodation information, funded by the Department of Labor's Office of Disability Employment Policy. Its Accommodation and Compliance platform covers thousands of assistive solutions organized by disability and functional limitation, including a dedicated section on alerting devices for hearing loss.
What It Does
The alerting devices guide catalogues commercially available systems that substitute visual signals (flashing lights), tactile signals (vibration or bed shakers), or amplified audio for sounds that people with hearing loss may otherwise miss—including doorbells, phone rings, smoke and CO alarms, baby monitors, and alarm clocks. Entries include product descriptions, vendor information, and notes on compatibility with smartphones and smart-home platforms. JAN consultants are also available free of charge by phone, chat, or email to help match an individual to the right alerting solution.
Who It Helps
Employees with hearing loss seeking workplace alerting accommodations, employers implementing ADA-compliant notification systems, individuals evaluating home alerting options, and vocational rehabilitation counselors advising clients with hearing disabilities.
