About this resource

About

Microsoft Translator's Live Conversations feature is part of the free Microsoft Translator app, available on iOS, Android, and Windows. One participant starts a session and shares a short join code; others join on their own devices and instantly see live captions — each in the language of their choice — with no account required to join.

What It Does

The session host (or any speaker in the room) speaks and captions appear on every participant's device in near real time across 60+ supported languages. Groups of any size can join the same session with no limit on device count. Deaf and hard-of-hearing participants read captions in English (or another supported language) without requiring a dedicated captioning service or additional hardware — any smartphone or tablet works as a caption display. The entire app is free and does not require a Microsoft account to use.

Who It Helps

Deaf and hard-of-hearing students, patients, employees, and community members in group settings, particularly in multilingual contexts such as immigrant-serving clinics, ESL classrooms, and international events where participants may benefit from captions in their own language alongside hearing accessibility.
