About
The iBOT Personal Mobility Device is produced by Mobius Mobility, who relaunched the iconic iBOT technology in 2019 after the original device was discontinued. Using dynamic balancing technology originally developed at DEKA Research by Dean Kamen's team, the iBOT PMD extends the reach of power wheelchairs into environments where conventional chairs cannot go.
What It Does
The iBOT operates in multiple modes: standard indoor power chair, four-wheel-drive for outdoor terrain including gravel, grass, and sand, a dynamic balance mode that elevates the rider to standing eye level for social interaction, and a stair-climbing mode. This enables users to navigate their full physical environment with significantly greater independence.
Who It Helps
Power wheelchair users with physical disabilities — particularly those with spinal cord injuries, muscular dystrophy, MS, or other lower-limb paralysis — who want to access uneven terrain, climb stairs, or achieve eye-level standing in social settings. Medical qualification and prescriptive fitting through a certified dealer is required.
