About this resource

About

Founded in 1957 by quadriplegic artist Erich Stegmann, the International Association of Mouth and Foot Painting Artists (AMFPA) is unique among disability arts organisations: it is entirely owned and controlled by its artists. With over 800 member artists across 74 countries, it is one of the largest and most established disability art organisations in the world. MFPA USA is the American affiliate based in Atlanta, GA.

What It Does

MFPA markets and sells greeting cards, fine art prints, calendars, and licensed products created by artists who paint using their mouth or foot. Full and associate member artists receive a regular salary; student members receive a monthly stipend while developing their skills. The organisation actively seeks and supports new talent among artists with upper-limb disabilities globally.

Who It Helps

MFPA serves artists with upper-limb disabilities, paralysis, spinal cord injuries, limb difference, and amputation who paint without the use of their hands. The artist-owned structure ensures that economic benefit flows directly to the artists themselves.
