About this resource

About

New England Disabled Sports (NEDS) was founded in 1987 as White Mountain Adaptive Snow Sports by just six volunteer coaches. Over nearly four decades it has grown into a chapter of Move United with over 200 highly trained volunteer instructors. NEDS is headquartered at Loon Mountain Ski Resort in Lincoln, New Hampshire, with an additional site at the Bretton Woods Ski Resort at the Omni Mount Washington Resort.

What It Does

NEDS delivers adaptive instruction in Alpine skiing, Nordic (cross-country) skiing, snowboarding, and snowshoeing to close to 600 student-athletes annually, totalling nearly 3,500 lessons per season. The organisation also runs summer adaptive sports programming. Scholarship funds are available for participants who cannot afford programme fees, and no one is turned away for financial reasons.

Who It Helps

Children and adults with physical disabilities (including limb differences, spinal cord injuries, and neurological conditions) and cognitive disabilities across New England. The two-resort model at Loon Mountain and Bretton Woods gives participants in northern New Hampshire access to expert adaptive instruction close to home.
