About
Founded in 1989 and headquartered in Tampa, FL, the National Mobility Equipment Dealers Association (NMEDA) represents and accredits adaptive vehicle dealers and technicians across the United States. NMEDA advocates before Congress, the VA, NHTSA, and federal regulatory agencies to protect the rights and safety of people with disabilities who need vehicle modifications.
What It Does
NMEDA's website provides a searchable dealer locator to find Quality Assurance Program (QAP)-accredited technicians near you, consumer FAQs on vehicle conversions, guides to hand controls, wheelchair lifts, ramps, tie-down systems, and transfer seats, plus information on financing, manufacturer rebates, and VA benefits for adaptive equipment. The site also raises awareness through National Mobility Awareness Month each May.
Who It Helps
Wheelchair users, people with upper or lower limb paralysis or amputation, veterans with service-related mobility disabilities, and families seeking to purchase, convert, or modify a vehicle — particularly those who want assurance that the installer meets national quality and safety standards.
