About
Founded in 1989, NMEDA supports nearly 600 mobility equipment dealers, manufacturers, and driver rehabilitation specialists dedicated to expanding safe transportation for people with disabilities. It is the only North American trade association with a nationally recognised accreditation programme — the Quality Assurance Program (QAP) — for the adaptive mobility equipment industry.
What It Does
The NMEDA Dealer Locator lets users enter a zip or postal code to find QAP-accredited dealers nearby. The Consumer Buying Guide explains types of vehicle conversions (minivans, full-size vans, ramps, lifts, transfer seats), adaptive driving controls (hand controls, steering aids, reduced-effort braking), and funding sources including manufacturer mobility rebates and vocational rehabilitation programmes. NMEDA also maintains a list of rebate programmes offered by major vehicle manufacturers.
Who It Helps
Wheelchair and scooter users who need a modified vehicle or adaptive driving equipment, family members, driver rehabilitation specialists, and veterans navigating the vehicle modification process. Especially helpful for people newly acquiring a mobility disability who are unfamiliar with what adaptive vehicle options exist and how to fund them.
