About this resource

About

Founded in 1989, the National Mobility Equipment Dealers Association (NMEDA) sets the professional and safety standard for adaptive vehicle modifications across the US and Canada. Its Quality Assurance Program (QAP) is the only nationally recognised accreditation for adaptive mobility equipment installers, ensuring dealers meet rigorous engineering compliance requirements.

What It Does

NMEDA's online dealer locator helps people with disabilities find QAP-certified installers of hand controls, steering aids, wheelchair lifts, tie-down systems, and full vehicle conversions in their area. The consumer resources section also covers funding and financing options, including Vocational Rehabilitation, VA benefits, and manufacturer assistance programmes.

Who It Helps

People with physical disabilities who drive or ride in adapted vehicles, including wheelchair users, amputees, and individuals with limited upper- or lower-body function who need professionally installed adaptive driving or passenger equipment.
