About this resource

About

The Open Doors Organization (ODO) was founded in 2000 in Chicago with a clear mission: to train travel and hospitality organisations to better serve people with disabilities and to research the size and needs of the accessible travel market. ODO is a recognised authority on disability travel economics and industry training.

What It Does

ODO conducts research into the spending power and travel patterns of people with disabilities — studies that have helped convince airlines, hotels, and cruise lines to invest in accessibility. It delivers training programmes to travel industry staff on interacting with passengers with disabilities, handling mobility equipment, and creating inclusive booking experiences. ODO also publishes free accessible travel guides for consumers.

Who It Helps

Travellers with disabilities benefit indirectly through improved industry standards driven by ODO's research and training. The organisation's consumer guides directly help people with disabilities plan trips. Travel and hospitality professionals benefit from ODO's training programmes.
