About this resource

About

Proloquo4Text is developed by AssistiveWare for teens and adults who can read and write but have limited or no functional speech. Unlike symbol-based AAC, it focuses on typed communication enhanced by adaptive text prediction and a personal phrase library.

What It Does

The app features word and sentence prediction that adapts to each user's vocabulary, a QuickTalk tab for instant one-tap phrases, and a text pad for composing longer messages. It supports 100+ natural-sounding voices in 18 languages and includes voice banking — letting users create a personalized voice from their own recorded speech before a condition progresses. Switch scanning, head tracking, and other alternative access methods are supported. It runs on iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, and Mac.

Who It Helps

Best suited for literate individuals with ALS, laryngectomy, stroke, aphasia, traumatic brain injury, autism, apraxia, or cerebral palsy who retain reading and writing skills but cannot use natural speech reliably.
