About this resource

About

Read&Write is a literacy support toolbar developed by Texthelp, available for Windows, Mac, iOS, Android, and as a Chrome extension. Used in schools and universities worldwide, it embeds directly into the tools students already use — Google Docs, Microsoft Word, PDFs, and websites.

What It Does

Key features include natural-sounding text-to-speech that reads any on-screen text aloud, word prediction with speech output, picture and talking dictionaries, a PDF reader with highlighting and note tools, a vocabulary list builder, screen masking to reduce visual distraction, and an essay-planning tool. The Chrome extension version is free.

Who It Helps

Students and adults with dyslexia, ADHD, low vision, or any reading or writing difficulty. Widely used in K–12 special education, higher education disability services, and workplace accessibility programmes.
