About
Founded in 2017 and based in East Austin, Texas, SAGE Studio & Gallery is a nonprofit creating professional careers in the visual arts for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. SAGE operates as a genuine commercial gallery — exhibiting and selling work at market prices — rather than a therapy or day-programme model.
What It Does
SAGE provides free studio sessions on Monday, Wednesday, Friday mornings and Saturday afternoons, with professional materials, facilitation, and instruction. A 50/50 revenue split means artists keep half of every sale, with some SAGE artists earning more than $30,000 annually. The organisation pursues high-profile corporate collaborations — including with Vans, Whataburger, and Austin FC — and participates in national art fairs to build artists' professional profiles and income streams.
Who It Helps
Adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in the Austin, Texas area who wish to pursue visual art as a professional career and source of meaningful, sustained income.
