About
Developed by Touch Autism and built on Carol Gray's evidence-based Social Stories framework (first published in 1991), this app has become one of the most widely recommended digital tools for supporting social understanding in autism practice. It allows fully customised story creation and access to a community-shared library of ready-made stories.
What It Does
Users create short, structured narratives about social situations — doctor visits, transitions, greetings, or classroom expectations — using their own photos, typed text, audio narration, and video clips. Finished stories can be read on-device, exported as print-ready PDFs, or shared with other Social Story Creator users. The core app is free; additional premium story packs and features are available via in-app purchase.
Who It Helps
Primarily designed to support children and adults with autism, the app is also used for people with intellectual disabilities, anxiety, or social communication differences. It is commonly used by parents, special education teachers, speech-language pathologists, and behaviour support professionals.
